The Reverend Ian Oliver was officially installed Sunday as pastor of the University Church and senior associate chaplain of Protestant life at Yale at a special worship service held at Battell Chapel. During the service, Oliver made a covenant between himself, Yale, the University Church and his denomination of the United Church of Christ to serve Yale’s Protestant community. Oliver, who had previously been head chaplain for 12 years at Bucknell College, is Yale’s first chaplain to have the specific charge of Protestant chaplain. Previous to the installation of University Chaplain Sharon Kugler, all University chaplains had been Protestant. Participating in the ceremony were the Reverend Samuel Slie, former associate pastor of the University Church, and the Reverend Harry Baker Adams, former University chaplain.
