Gov. M. Jodi Rell joined the ranks of state governors calling on the federal government to address their states’ financial woes Wednesday. In a letter to Rep. Charles B. Rangel, the chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, Rell asked that any new economic stimulus package include aid to states whose constitutions require balanced budgets and are seeing revenue shortfalls. Rell asked the committee to give states free reign to allocate money as they see fit. “State governments will be able to target specific industries and business sectors for assistance now and make investments that will position them to succeed when the inevitable economic upturn arrives,” she said.
