Today marks the last day of operation for New Haven’s downtown electric trolley route. After the trolley’s source of funding, a city parking lot at State and Chapel streets, dried out due to the Shartenberg Development project at 360 State St., the city decided to suspend the free transportation service rather than attempt to cough up the $300,000 annual trolley cost. The director of the Greater New Haven Transit District expressed hope, though, that the service may be reinstated in the future.
