Six week after the start of the New Haven Police Department’s anti-prostitution initiative, undercover officers conducted its sixth covert sting Tuesday night, which resulted in the arrest of five women charged with prostitution.

The sting occurred in Fair Haven, Dwight and Hill South neighborhoods, all areas known for widespread prostitution.

The undercover stings began on August 14, when police arrested 12 “johns,” or patrons of prostitutes in Fair Haven. Since that time, 51 johns and prostitutes have been detained. City officials have promised that the stings will continue until prostitution is eradicated in New Haven.
