University President Richard Levin is nearing a decision on the next dean of Yale College. Levin said Monday that he discussed possible candidates for the job when meeting this weekend with the Yale Corporation, the University’s highest governing body, and that the Corporation authorized him to come to a decision himself. While he would not elaborate on any of the contenders, Levin said he is “close” to offering the position to someone, perhaps in the next few days. It is unclear if Levin would be able to make an announcement this week; if he cannot, it will have to wait until at least Oct. 20, as Levin leaves this weekend for a foreign excursion to South Korea and Japan and said he would not make an announcement while abroad.
