It could all come down to Saturday night.

The women’s ice hockey team (9-12-6, 6-10-4 ECAC) enters its final weekend of regular season play with a playoff slot on the line. The top eight teams advance to the quarterfinals, which begin on Feb. 29 — and the Elis are currently sharing that eighth-place slot with Rensselaer (13-13-5, 6-10-4), whom they will face on Saturday at the Whale.

Of course, both teams have a Friday game first. The Bulldogs will face down last-place Union (3-25-2, 0-18-2), while Rensselaer takes the ice against 11th-place Brown (3-19-5, 2-14-4). If statistics and history are any indication, both teams have a chance to come out ahead — and so everything will hinge on the match against one another.

The Engineers and the Bulldogs haven’t faced off since Oct. 26, and that match resulted in a 1-1 tie. Another tie could mean that the decision is thrown to comparison of performance against the top four teams in the league, and then, should that record be identical, the top eight.
