Middlebury College Associate Dean Marichal Gentry will replace outgoing Dean of Student Affairs Betty Trachtenberg, effective August 1, a student familiar with the search process said Friday.
Before being named Associate Dean of the College in 2005, Gentry served as the Associate Dean of Student Affairs after his arrival at Middlebury in 1999. In his capacity as associate dean, Gentry presided over the enforcement of Middlebury’s honor code through the school’s equivalent of the Executive Committee.
Administrators could not be reached for comment late Friday afternoon.
A committee of students, faculty and administrators began the search for a new dean in January after Trachtenberg announced in the fall that she would be stepping down at the end of this academic year. The committee invited four finalists to campus for in-person interviews in May before submitting a recommendation to Yale College Dean Peter Salovey.
Gentry graduated from The University of the South and earned a Master’s of Social Work at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
