Gregory Morehead won a sweeping victory against his three opponents in Monday’s special election for Ward 22 alderman.

Before absentee ballots were counted, he had received more than 200 votes. None of his opponents — Lisa Hopkins, Reggie Lytle or Cordelia Thorpe — received more than 100 votes. Thorpe appeared to have come in second place followed by Hopkins and then Lytle.

“Let’s bring unity back,” Morehead said after the results were announced to a crowd of nealy 50. “It’s time to work as a team.”

The last vote cast was cast four seconds before the polls closed by a Yalie who voted for Morehead, who derived much of his support from the University community.

The special election was called after the March resignation of Rev. Drew King.
