Columnist’s take on nude athletics may not extend to geezer golfers

Cheers to Charles Gariepy for providing some clarity into the murky line between “buff” athletes and athletes “in the buff.” But I must admit that Wednesday’s column still has not convinced me that a nekkid tour by the Senior PGA would be a good idea.

Who needs politics when you’ve got perfectly good entertainment on TV?
To the Editor:
(Re: “Oscars took a break from politics as usual,” 2/28)
I can’t tell you how happy I was to read Alexandra Schwartz’s column. I mean, all people want to talk about these days is politics! You know how it goes: 655,000 Iraqis have been killed since March 2003, the CIA is funding terrorists in Iran, the Iraq war is increasing terrorism instead of fighting it. Yadda yadda yadda. And now these Hollywood goons want to talk about it? Have they forgotten their roles? Look, it’s not hard to understand: Entertainers are here to entertain us. We’re all busy Yalies. None of us sleeps much, so when we want to unwind, we better not hear any current-affairs nonsense. Another thing: Leave the commentary to the smart guys, you know, proto-fascist Donald Kagan, John Gaddis, so forth. Not Sy Hersh, though — I don’t like his pessimism.
