The wife of a Yale graduate student was robbed Tuesday night in a parking lot at 574 Prospect St.
Yale Police Department Lt. Michael Patten said the New Haven Police Department is currently investigating the incident, which took place around 7 p.m. Although he said he was unsure how much money was taken, Patten said the victim was in the process of leaving her car when the robbery occurred.
“She was about to get out of the car when three males accosted her,” he said.
In response to the robbery, YPD Chief James Perrotti sent an e-mail to members of the Yale community Wednesday afternoon, urging students to utilize security services such as the Minibus and 2-WALK.
In the e-mail, Perrotti said that while the YPD has recently increased patrols in the parking lots of apartment buildings where Yale students live, security concerns still exist.
“We believe that these measures have been effective in reducing crime, but, unfortunately, they have not eliminated it,” he wrote. “I urge your continued caution, especially at dusk and after dark.”
