Three Yale students who were arrested early Saturday morning on charges of larceny and criminal mischief while allegedly participating in a scavenger hunt for the fraternity Sigma Alpha Epsilon appeared at New Haven Superior Court yesterday to ask for continuances of their trials to a later date.
David Atlas ’08 will appear in court Nov. 29, while Steven Kuchta ’09 and Stephen Sherrill ’09 will next appear before a judge on Jan. 31. Devin Ringger ’09, another SAE pledge arrested Saturday night, will appear in court on Nov. 15.
Superior Court Clerk Tara Lee Croke said that at their next court appearances, the students will choose to enter either a guilty or not guilty plea.
Kuchta and Atlas, who New Haven Police Department spokeswoman Bonnie Winchester said allegedly broke the glass display case in front of Samurai restaurant, were arrested by the NHPD on charges of conspiracy to commit criminal mischief in the third degree and larceny in the sixth degree. Sherrill, who was arrested by the Yale Police Department half an hour later in a separate incident, faces similar charges.
