A 47-year-old New Haven resident was arrested by Yale Police Department officers in the Jonathan Edwards College courtyard on charges of criminal trespassing at around 9:00 p.m. Monday night.

YPD Lt. Michael Patten said although Thomas Wiggins was loitering around the courtyard, he did not enter any entryways.

“He probably followed a student through the gate and into the courtyard,” he said.

While many JE students said they were unconcerned by the crime, they said they felt the incident was preventable.

“If someone looks suspicious, go through another entryway where someone isn’t standing and waiting to be let in,” Duncan Cheng ’07 said. “If you have to go through the entryway, ask them if they are a student, or ask them to let you in instead to make sure they’re supposed to be there.”
