In a fantastic photo finish, the women’s crew team nipped Radcliffe in the varsity race in Cambridge to claim the Case Cup.

Both teams clocked in at 6:24.08, but Yale ended up with the victory when it was determined that the Elis had won by a mere foot. The Bulldogs also came out on top in the 2nd varsity and 3rd varsity boats to win three of the five races on the afternoon. Notre Dame was a guest at the cup, capturing second-place finishes in the 2nd and 3rd varsity races and wining both novice races.

The results were a welcome sign for the varsity boat, which lost to No. 1 Princeton by four seconds last weekend in Derby, Conn.

The win in the varsity race also provided a much-needed confidence boost for the team heading into next weekend, when the Elis take on last year’s NCAA champion Brown.

The varsity boat has captured four of five races so far in the spring season.
