Stu McNay ’04, one of the more talented male sailors to come through Yale in the past decade, is no longer the captain of the Yale coed sailing team, but he is confident that his successor will do well.

The 2003 captains for the coed and women’s Yale sailing teams were announced Tuesday in an e-mail from Elizabeth “Sunny” Larson ’03, the outgoing women’s captain. Catherine “Kate” Littlefield ’04 will lead the coed squad, and Jennifer Hoyle ’05 will captain the women’s team.

McNay said he had a lot of faith in the new leadership.

“Kate and Jen will do a fantastic job in the positions of captain,” McNay said. “I sail with Kate, so I know her quite well and she’s very excited about being captain and she’s a great sailor.”

McNay also made a bold prediction.

“I think she [Littlefield] can lead us to a national championship this spring, and the same can be said for Jenn,” he said.

McNay said that it would be great that the captains were good friends.

“Because of the closeness of the coed and women’s teams where we end up sharing many of our players, it’s great that they’re close friends and that they work well together.”

Larson said she too had confidence.

“I know that the people we chose today to be captains will work hard for the team,” Larson said in an e-mail.

Littlefield and Hoyle were unavailable for comment Thursday night.
