Central Connecticut State University canceled Saturday’s men’s rugby game against Yale because the CCSU administration suspended the entire Blue Devil squad from intercollegiate competition, rugby president Mark Marion ’03 said.
The suspension supposedly resulted from an incident involving alcohol abuse and hazing, Marion said. No one from the Blue Devils squad or the CCSU administration could be reached for comment.
The Bulldogs next face Trinity at home Oct. 12. The Trinity contest will be the Bulldogs’ third and last match of the fall season before they compete in the New England Championships Oct. 26.
Without a fourth game in their schedule, the Bulldogs’ chances at qualifying for postseason play are questionable. The Elis desperately need a win against Trinity to secure any chances at a postseason berth.
Last year, the Bulldogs qualified for the New England Championships and defeated Bowdoin 18-12.
The Bulldogs will also face Harvard Nov. 22, the day before the Yale-Harvard football game.
Currently, the team is 1-1. Yale beat Fairfield University Sept. 28 and lost to the Coast Guard Academy Sept. 21.
