A New Haven public elementary school teacher is facing drug charges after being arrested for heroin possession, police said.
Police said Ann Carangelo, a first-grade teacher at Davis Street Magnet School, had ungraded class work and a sizable amount of heroin on the front seat of her car when she was arrested at 4:30 p.m. Friday.
Carangelo faces counts of possession of narcotics, possession of narcotics with intent to sell, and improper parking. She was also charged with possession of narcotics within 1,500 feet of a school.
Carangelo has been suspended with pay pending the outcome of the investigation, school spokeswoman Catherine Sullivan DeCarlo said.
She is due in court Sept. 25.
