A man arrested after leading authorities on a chase into the Sunday services of a local church was being held without bond Monday on federal drug charges.

Kevin Cunningham was among four men charged after a four-month investigation into a crack cocaine distribution ring in New Haven, the U.S. attorney’s office said.

Two New Haven men, Charles Brewer III and Everett Thompson, and Jose Luciano of New York, were taken into custody Sunday without incident, U.S. Attorney John Danaher said. But Cunningham led agents on an automobile chase through New Haven that ended when he abandoned his car and fled into the Trinity Temple Church of God and Christ, authorities said.

Police interrupted services at the church to take Cunningham into custody, the New Haven Register reported.

All four men face charges of conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine.

Prosecutors have asked that all four be held without bond until trial. A hearing on that motion was scheduled for later this week.
