After suffering one of the closest losses in school history, the women’s gymnastics team received some uplifting news Wednesday when two Eli gymnasts earned top ECAC honors. Andrea Wolf ’03 was named the ECAC Women’s Gymnastics Athlete of the Week and Kathryn Fong ’05 claimed Rooke of the Week accolades, both for the week of Jan. 14-21. Fong and Wolf led the Bulldogs in a dual meet against the University of Massachusetts in which Yale scored a season-high 191.750 points but fell to the Minutewomen by 0.075 points.
Competing on every event for the Elis, Wolf posted scores of 9.800 on the floor exercise, 9.700 on the uneven parallel bars, 9.600 on the vault and 9.100 on the balance beam. She finished third all-around with a score of 38.250.
Fong’s score of 38.525 was good for second place all-around. In only her second collegiate meet, Fong recorded impressive scores of 9.875 on the bars, 9.750 on the beam, 9.650 on the vault and 9.250 on the floor.
With one of their most talented teams in school history, the Bulldogs host Ivy rival Pennsylvania at the John J. Lee Amphitheater Saturday at 1 p.m.
