A minor gas leak forced the Southern Connecticut Gas Company to tear up the section of York Street across from Davenport College yesterday.

Bob Byrd of Southern Connecticut Gas said a survey crew discovered the leak shortly after 2 p.m. and immediately notified the gas company. During the course of the day, workers from local water, phone and electric utilities responded to the scene and took care of any damage done in their particular areas.

“The leak is secured now; we’re just finishing off the job,” Byrd said at approximately 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Byrd said that during peak repair hours, there were as many as five different utility vehicles on the scene taking care of the incident. The leak was fixed by 10 p.m.
