To the Editor:
Why must Emily Grant ’02 and Lukas Halim ’02 (“Gay and religion a tough union for some,” 11/29) insist that every workshop, seminar, speech, class, etc. related to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender issues include drivel about the evils of homosexuality and the glory of fanatically enforced gender roles?
There are plenty of places to acquire bigotry without asking the members of Yale’s LGBT community to supply it.
Thursday’s article also neglected to mention that there are at least six Christian congregations within a five-minute walk of Old Campus that happily welcome gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender persons into their fellowship.
They are Christ Church, Trinity Church, Center Church, United Church, First and Summerfield United Methodist Church, and the Church of Christ in Yale/Battell Chapel.
At least two of these congregations have openly gay clergy on their staff.
