The Yale Police Department and its associated union, the Yale Police Benevolent Association, announced Thursday that they raised $18,530 through their World Trade Center Relief program. Yale President Richard Levin has agreed to match this amount, resulting in a total of $37,060 to aid those involved with the Sept. 11 tragedy.

“If it was the intent of those responsible for this terrorist act to pull this nation apart and destroy our spirit, then they have failed,” said Yale Police Chief James Perrotti and YPBA President Carlos Perez in a written statement.

The funds will be equally divided between the WTC Police Disaster Relief Fund and the New York Firefighters 9-11 Disaster Relief Fund.
