To the Editor:
Louise Story’s article (“Trying to shed the Yale admissions myth,” 9/27) is as evocative and relevant as the News gets. I would simply like to add that Yale can be a scary place regardless of our excellent record on financial aid and student diversity.
Mere information — whether obtained through official University Web sites, traveling recruitment outfits or word of mouth — is not enough to assuage the specific fears voiced by the students in the article. Still, we can all make a difference as Yalies by being models of sanity, generosity and even humor for these strong but ambivalent minds.
If the News’ readers are truly concerned for building a better and more inclusive Yale, then the task of removing fear about our school is up to us.
