Despite faltering as a team at the end, the fencing team can look back on their season with pride.

Seven members of the fencing team were selected for All-Ivy honors this year after their performances in the regular season. Saberists Sada Jacobson ’04, Helen Liu ’02 and Sophie Jones ’03 composed the first-team selections for women’s saber. Foil squad member Peter Cellini ’04 also received first-team honors, while foil squad member Zane Selkirk ’04, epee squad member Cameron Hill ’02 and foil squad member Daniel Senft ’03 were all second-team All-Ivy selections.

All-Ivy team members were selected based on their winning percentage during regular season competition. Each team member had to have participated in 75 percent of the possible bouts to be considered for the honor.

For Jacobson, who won the national championship and completed the regular season with an undefeated record in dual meet competition, earning the All-Ivy honor is the icing on the cake.

“It’s something I’ve been working for all year,” Jacobson said.

Although he missed the end of the season, Cellini thinks the All-Ivy selection will motivate him to perform at an even higher level next year.

“It’s good to have that kind of reward at the end of the season,” said Cellini, who was unable to fence in the IFAs and National Championships because of mononucleosis. “Maybe I’ll get even more out of next season.”

The first-team selection is the second in a row for Jones and Liu, while Hill was a first-team selection last year.
