The Furniture Puzzle

Urban furniture is often a little … off. Either there are too many ugly benches, or you can’t find a place to sit. And most of the time, you don’t even need to sit at all – casually leaning against the wall will do.

Maruja Fuentes’ Leaning-mold is an innovative furniture system composed of two interlocking pieces, one with a protrusion, the other with an indent. These can be arranged as a simple pair or in infinite patterns, uniquely tailored to the particular environment. The arrangements provide a place to lean up against comfortably, and are both aesthetically and environmentally stunning.

It wouldn’t fit in at Yale, but it’s a well-designed idea, and one that would probably be improved by some good graffiti.
