On Saturday, Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy rescinded a ban on state-funded travel to Indiana after Indiana Gov. Mike Pence amended the state’s Religious Freedom Restoration Act Thursday night.
Malloy issued the ban on March 30, protesting the act, which allow individuals and businesses to cite religious claims as a part of legal defense in cases not solely between individuals and the government. As a result, all travel from Connecticut to Indiana receiving support from the state government was suspended.
“Unlike Connecticut – which has been a national leader in LGBTQ protections – this is the first time that Indiana has codified any protections for individuals based upon their sexual orientation or gender identity,” Malloy said in a Saturday press release. “While the law even in its amended version remains divisive, I believe it is a step in the right direction.”
Malloy also said he would continue to monitor other states considering similar legislation, preparing to react accordingly.
