A long-awaited open forum between University administrators and the student body continued the running discussion about mental health policy at Yale, the effects of which reached as far as the Senior Class Gift. Elsewhere, however, the community celebrated the appointment of new masters in Silliman and Saybrook though similar announcements for other colleges (and for Spring Fling performers and Class Day speakers) still loom large.

Tensions flare at mental health forum | The town hall, which Yale College Dean Jonathan Holloway said was intended to clear up misperceptions about mental health services at Yale Health, quickly became heated, with numerous students directly confronting administrators about their own negative experiences with MH&C.

Christakis named Silliman master | “Professor Christakis is passionate about public health, bad action movies and good chocolate. And when discipline needs to be doled out, he has a black belt in Shotokan Karate — just to warn you in advance.”

Thomas Near named Saybrook master | “I, like you, started at Yale as a Saybrugian,” Near said. “There will be time for us to get to know each other. There will be time for us to share our stories with one another.”

Stark ’17 considers run for alder | Stark filed papers at the New Haven Hall of Records on Monday that formed an exploratory committee to investigate running for the seat on the city’s legislative body that represents the bulk of Yale College students.
