Water from a broken pipe has flooded Saybrook Dining Hall, leading to its closure for dinner service.

The New Haven Fire Department arrived in the residential college shortly before the dining hall was scheduled to open at 5 p.m. A security guard on the scene said a broken pipe had caused leakage, and therefore, students would not be allowed to enter.

An email sent by Ann-Marie Apicella, the college’s operations manager, at 5:45 p.m. told the Saybrook community they should plan to eat elsewhere. The severely cold weather had caused the break, the email said.

Branford Dining Hall was unaffected by the broken pipe.
