The year’s first campus-wide alert from the Yale Police Department reported an incident involving three undergraduates Monday evening.

At 6:35 p.m., two men on bicycles approached the students from behind, demanding that they hand over their backpacks, YPD Chief Ronnell Higgins wrote in an email sent to the Yale Community at around 9:15 p.m. One of the perpetrators threatened the victims with a handgun, Higgins added.

The students were walking along the Canal Line between Munson and Division Streets — roughly a mile from the heart of campus — with the suspects fleeing toward Division Street afterwards. The New Haven Police Department is currently investigating the incident, for which no injuries have been reported.

Higgins ended the email by asking students with information about the incident to contact the Yale Police Department.
