In a Wednesday morning email to the Yale community, University President Peter Salovey opened the door for suggestions regarding the names of the two new residential colleges. The email contained a link to a web page where visitors are free to enter up three names for the Yale Corporation’s consideration.

Salovey said that a list of names submitted to the president’s office, the Yale Alumni Magazine, and the News had already been collected, and that the announcement of the chosen names will likely be made in the coming year.

Plans for the two new residential colleges were first made public in 2008. The colleges are slated to be completed in the fall of 2017, resulting in an expected 15 percent increase in the student body.

In the past year, concerns have been raised about how Yale College will be able to absorb hundreds of additional students. Students have cited relatively small classroom sizes, the location of the new colleges on Science Hill and the legacy that comes with existing decades-old colleges as issues to be taken into consideration.
