A 14-year-old Hillhouse High School student was injured in a shooting that happened outside of the school Monday night following a basketball game.

The Hartford Courant reports that the police found the student at Dixwell Avenue and Munson Street – several blocks from the school – suffering from two gunshot wounds. Smith wrote that the student’s injuries are not life threatening, and he was taken to Yale-new Haven hospital for treatment.

NHPS is currently working with the New Haven Police Department to investigate the shooting and to increase security at Hillhouse and other high schools throughout the district tomorrow. Out of precaution, JV and freshman basketball games scheduled for tomorrow at Hillhouse have been cancelled.

In a statement issued Monday night, Superintendent of Schools Garth Harries ’95 said that NHPS would work with police to take measures to protect students.

“No young person should have to fear for his safety inside or outside a high school sports game,” Harries said. “I do not accept and will not tolerate any act of violence against a member of school community.”

Hillhouse High School is located at 480 Sherman Parkway.
