In honor of World AIDS Week, groups across campus have planned events from Dec. 2-6.

Campus organizations, including the Yale Public Health Coalition, the Yale AIDS Support Coalition, and the Student Global Health and AIDS Coalition, will staff information tables on Cross Campus and hold a talk with New Haven public health professionals. Groups will also host a film screening to raise awareness about the epidemic and honor the roughly 36 million people who have died from the disease. The week will culminate with an opportunity to volunteer at Leeway Clinic, a health center devoted entirely to people living with HIV/AIDS.

This year, AIDS week comes only a few days after the CDC released information showing a rise in unprotected sex among gay men in the United States, spawning concerns that the already challenging task of fighting the epidemic will be made more difficult. According to amfAR, more than 35 million people worldwide currently live with HIV/AIDS.
