Yale’s varsity football team doesn’t play Harvard until noon today, but members of Saybrook College have already beaten the Crimson in a lesser-known rendition of The Game.

After winning the Yale intramural league championship a few weeks ago, Saybrook’s 11–0 football team came back in the final plays of the game on Thursday to overcome the representative Harvard squad 37–32.

Though Saybrook held the lead for much of the game, Harvard eventually took a 32–31 advantage late. The Saybrugians found themselves deep in their own territory, two plays away from losing their first game of the season. But quarterback and captain Zack Miles ’14 would not let his college down.

Miles took the snap, scrambled right and found Brandis Yarrington ’14 for a short pass. Yarrington ran upfield and tossed the ball up to Jackson Liguori ’14 in the end zone for a touchdown, taking advantage of IM football’s ‘razzle-dazzle’ rule. Miles intercepted a Harvard pass on the next play to secure the victory.

“The weak will of the Cantabs was their downfall in the end,” Chadd Cosse ’17 said. “They they just didn’t want it as much as we did.”

Though the Saybrook intramural team was initially all men, they added women to the team for the game because Harvard does not have a men’s league.
