A Friday night home invasion may have been inaccurately classified as a hostage situation by the New Haven Police Department. After the victim was successfully rescued yesterday evening, a tactical team outside stood waiting to enter and search the residence.

The NHPD got a call at 7 p.m. Friday that an armed perpetrator had entered a multi-family home at 1412 State Street. Hostage negotiators arrived at the scene shortly thereafter and successfully removed the caller from the home, according to a city of New Haven press statement. The caller was not injured.

Because the incident had been classified as a hostage situation and “possibly as a barricaded subject situation,” a team of trained NHPD responders was preparing to enter according to the statement, despite the fact that the original victim was no longer in the residence. No shots appeared to have been fired, and there are no suspects or vehicle information available for the case.

Detectives have begun interviewing parties involved in the Friday night report. The investigation will continue into Monday.
