The search for the next superintendent of New Haven Public Schools is now down to three, according to the New Haven Independent.

The final three candidates are Garth Harries, the current assistant superintendent in New Haven; Dred Scott, a deputy superintendent from Missouri; and Kriner Cash, the former Memphis schools chief.

Harries has been considered a frontrunner in the contest since the search began, when long-time superintendent Reginald Mayo announced he would retire. Harries was hired by New Haven Public Schools to spearhead a school reform process that created a school tiering system, a new teacher evaluation system, and the New Haven Promise, a college scholarship for students graduating from public school in the Elm City.

The school district will hold meetings open to the public for interviews at Gateway Community College’s downtown campus from 9 a.m to 3:15 p.m on Saturday.
