Since Yale students left campus for the summer, change has been in the air in the Elm City.

Sullivan’s on Chapel, an Irish restaurant located at 1166 Chapel St., announced on its Facebook page May 23 that it will shut its doors Saturday, June 8. The announcement added that Dean Digioia, who according to the New Haven Independent has managed the restaurant for 10 years, is retiring. Another New Haven standard, Au Bon Pain at One Broadway, closed unexpectedly on Monday.

“We would like to thank all our wonderful customers and friends that we have met and supported us through the years!!!” the Sullivan’s on Chapel Facebook announcement stated. “Please stop by and see us and have a drink.”

Sullivan’s on Chapel is a family-owned pub, and its building has accomodated an Irish pub for the past 35 years. Besides burgers and beer, the restaurant offered roast beef sandwiches, hotdogs, Irish wings and salads. The pub was a hub of Irish pride every St. Patrick’s Day and during the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in New Haven.
