W. BASKETBALL | Bulldogs defeat Bryant 78-65

In their final tune-up before Ivy League play begins on Saturday, the Bulldogs captured a decisive 78-65 in yesterday’s contest at Bryant University. The win puts the Elis (5-9) on a two-game winning streak heading into their game against Brown this weekend.

The Bulldogs headed into the half with a comfortable 31-19 lead. A Bryant (4-11, 0-4 NEC) surge in the second half, led by forward Naana Ankoma-Mensa, cut the Elis’ lead to 10, but the team pushed through to maintain a steady 18-point lead through the remainder of the half. Ankoma-Mensa led all scorers with 22 points.

The Bulldogs excelled beyond the arc, netting an impressive 43.8 percent of 3-point shots for 21 points. The Bulldogs scored an additional 22 points off of 25 Bryant turnovers and posted an impressive 43.3 percent field-goal percentage in one of their highest-scoring efforts of the season so far.

Guard Amanda Tyson ’14 led Yale with 16 points off the bench, followed closely by point guard Sarah Halejian ’15 with 15 points. Halejian has had a strong sophomore campaign thus far, leading the team in scoring with 13.3 points per game.

Guards Janna Graf ’14 and Megan Vasquez ’13 both broke double digits with 12 points apiece. Vasquez also led the team with seven rebounds, while Graf grabbed five boards of her own.

The Bulldogs will tip off against Brown at 4 p.m. at the John J. Lee Amphitheater.
