THE NEWS
  • After Hurricane Sandy prompted administrators to cancel classes for the first time in 34 years, professors have had to adjust their curriculum to accommodate the shortened schedule. Professors interviewed said they have taken different approaches to rescheduling based on the format and content of their courses, and while several scheduled one additional class, others modified the syllabus or condensed material into shorter time periods.
  • This year, Yale has sold fewer tickets for the Yale-Harvard game than it had for the 2008 and 2010 Yale-Harvard games, the last two games held in Cambridge, Mass. Eight days after the tickets first went on sale, the Yale Athletics Ticket Office still has extras left. According to Associate Athletic Director Jeremy Makins, tickets sold out within five days for the 2010 and 2008 games.
  • For the second time in three years, Republican Senate candidate Linda McMahon has lost to her Democratic opponent, despite spending nearly $100 million of her personal fortune on the two campaigns combined. With her multimillion dollar campaign, McMahon joins the likes of  Meg Whitman, Carly Fiorina and Ross Perot, all of whom invested in their own political careers with little payoff. Now, it is an open question what McMahon – who ran World Wrestling Entertainment before her first Senate run against Richard Blumenthal LAW ’73 in 2010 – will do next.
