United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will be at Yale Tuesday as part of the George Herbert Walker, Jr. Lecture Series.
The talk, which will be held in Luce Auditorium, is titled “Shaping Solutions for a World in Transition.” Ban, who was appointed to lead the U.N. in 2007 and re-elected unanimously in 2011, played a prominent role in creating the 2007 Climate Change Summit as well as the United Nations’ Millennium Development Goals. He has worked to promote women’s rights and helped establish the UN Women, a United Nations agency.
In addition, he created a new position in the U.N. that focused on sexual violence in conflict situations. He also worked to secure 1 trillion dollars from the G20 in 2008 to provide aid to countries affected by the economic and food crises.
Previous speakers in the history of the George Herbert Walker, Jr. Lectures include the Madeleine Albright, the first female secretary of state, and John Major, former British prime minister.
