THE NEWS

  • After a month without a director, Undergraduate Career Services is set to begin searching for a new leader this week. Allyson Moore, the former UCS director and Yale College associate dean, left her post on Sept. 21, according to Jane Edwards, dean of international and professional experience and Yale College senior associate dean. Edwards declined to comment on Moore’s reasons for leaving, and other administrators in the UCS office deferred comment to Edwards. She also declined to comment on criteria for Moore’s replacement because the search committee for a new director has not yet met for “substantive discussion.”
  • Beginning last spring, the Joseph Slifka Center for Jewish Life at Yale has undergone several structural changes that aim to revamp the organization.Over the past several months, the Center has seen multiple staff transitions that include a re-appointment of the Slifka Center Board of Trustees, the selection of David Raphael as a new interim executive director, as well as two additions and two departures within the Slifka Center’s day-to-day staffing. The changes have arisen largely due to financial concerns associated with recent economy-related dips in the Slifka Center’s endowment.
  • As presidential candidates scramble to take the lead in swing states, Yale students who call those states home are sending in absentee ballots and finding other ways to influence the election despite their geographical distance. Students interviewed from key swing states such as Ohio, Florida, Virginia and Nevada, among others, all said they were sending absentee ballots because they thought their votes would make more of a difference in their home states than in Connecticut.
