The fourth annual Mandi Schwartz Marrow Donor Registration Drive, held in Commons on Thursday, registered over 500 people as potential marrow donors. Including the totals from Thursday’s drive, Yale’s marrow drives have added over 3,000 potential donors to the national registry.

The drive is named in honor of former women’s hockey player Mandi Schwartz ’11, who died last April after a battle with leukemia. No genetic match for Schwartz was found, but the annual Yale drive has located six genetic matches for people with similar life-threatening illnesses who require transplants.

For the past three years, Yale’s drive has been the largest of its kind. Two years ago, a record total of 921 people were added to the national registry of potential donors.
