THE NEWS

  • About a month ago, a two-story mockup created to test potential design features for Yale’s new residential colleges was constructed in a field next to Science Park’s building 25. The structure, which contains several options for elements such as windows and stonework, was designed so that administrators and architects could analyze the benefits and costs of various alternatives, School of Architecture Dean Robert A.M. Stern said. The Yale Corporation’s Buildings and Grounds Committee went to examine the mockup yesterday, the final group heavily involved with the construction of the new colleges to do so.
  • City officials are looking to establish a reliable transportation option for the patrons of downtown’s nightlife. A Town Green administrator announced Tuesday night that the city is planning to set up a taxi stand on Crown Street between College and Temple Streets from 10 p.m. until 2:30 a.m. or 3:00 a.m., Thursday through Sunday. Though some hailed the initiative as a saavy economic move and a solution to nightlife security issues, others doubted the stand would be effective.
  • Welcome to Frat City. In a music video that surfaced last December, Yale rappers “DaLegend” and “MC Lars” captured this simple message in their musical debut, informing Yale students that “frat city… runs the whole school” and listing a sequence of different Yale fraternities — including Alpha Delta Phi (ADPhi), Delta Kappa Epsilon (DKE) and Zeta Psi — in a rhythmic chant. Reporter Caroline Tan investigates Yale’s Frat City in this week’s WEEKEND cover.
