THE NEWS

  • After last summer’s new Directed Studies program for alumni garnered enthusiastic reviews, Yale will also offer courses in Grand Strategy and Shakespeare for alumni, their spouses and parents of Yale students this summer. • After the state legislature last year failed to repeal of one of Connecticut’s oldest “blue laws” —

a law banning Sunday liquor sales — Gov. Dannel Malloy announced a renewed push over the weekend to reverse the Prohibition-era regulation, eliciting opposing reactions from small retailers, lobbyists and consumers.

  • Mayor John DeStefano Jr. is set to bring a bill to the Board of Aldermen Tuesday night that would make it easier for people with criminal records to get licenses and permits from the city.
