University officials are considering Miami Dolphins assistant coach Karl Dorrell to become the next head coach of Yale’s football team, NFL Network Insider Jason La Canfora reported on Sunday.

A source in the NFL said Dorrell, the former head football coach at UCLA and the Dolphins’ current quarterback coach, is a candidate to fill the spot left open by Tom Williams’ December resignation, according to La Canfora. Dorrell is nearing the end of his contract with the Dolphins, where he has been since 2008. The Dolphins posted a 6-10 record last season, placing third in their division.

Before joining the Dolphins, Dorrell spent five years with UCLA. Under his leadership, the Bruins went 35-27, and in 2005, he was named Pac-10 Coach of the Year.
