City Hall spokesman Adam Joseph will be leaving his post after just nine months in office, the New Haven Independent reported on Wednesday.

Elizabeth Benton ’04, a former City Hall reporter for the New Haven Register and the aldermanic liaison for Mayor John DeStefano Jr. will take his place when he leaves at the end of this week. Joseph will start work as press secretary for the Senate Democrats in Hartford next Monday.

Joseph has worked in City Hall for several years as a state legislative liaison and policy aide and has some experience at the state level, having previously served as an aide to former Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz ’83. At his new position, Joseph will oversee a staff of six people and report to Chief of Staff Derek Slap, who is also a former spokesman for the city.

Joseph took over for Jessica Mayorga, who served as spokeswoman for four years, this February, after Mayorga took a job as the marketing director of National Council of La Raza, a Latino rights group. Benton’s appointment marks DeStefano’s 11th spokesperson since he took office in 1994.
