THE NEWS

  • Three years after the recession tore a $350 million hole in Yale’s budget, Provost Peter Salovey says University finances are finally stabilizing.
  • The froyo cold war has taken an icy turn. As recently as two weeks ago, the city’s downtown dessert establishments were preaching the benefits of a peaceful coexistence, but since then, relations have since chilled and deteriorated.
  • A line of over 600 people waited Tuesday to receive aid from FEMA’s Disaster Support Nutritional Assistance Program, which supports those who were affected by Hurricane Irene. Since the program began last Wednesday, crowds of over 1000 have waited in line at the New Haven Department of Social Services, often more than 10 hours for disaster benefit cards worth upwards of $200.
