  • Old Campus got political Sundayfternoon as Ward 1 aldermanic candidate held a rally with supporters. About 35 students donning “Vote Vinay” T-shirts congregated outside Lanman-Wright Hall to register voters as pop tunes belted from a loudspeaker and Nayak mingled in the crowd. In his first formal campaign speech since a meet-and-greet last spring, Nayak sounded a theme of town-gown unity that has become a staple of Ward 1 elections — but he insisted his detailed policy proposals lend credibility to his broader goals.
  • Students who traveled to Ugandafor a spring break Reach Out trip founded the Ugandan Hope Network late last spring to help sustain a working relationship with the non-profits they encountered in Central Uganda. While maintaining lasting commitments with the communities visited on trips is not an explicit goal of the Reach Out program — and relatively few Reach Out trips have developed long-term initiatives after they return to campus — Reach Out board members said that the club is an example of ways in which all student travelers in the program are impacted by their experiences abroad.
