University, city to commemorate 9/11

The University and city will come together next weekend to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks, the Yale Daily Bulletin reported today.

Organized around the themes of remembrance, reflection and renewal, the day’s events will begin at 1 p.m., with a minute-long ringing of bells across the city, including those in Harkness Tower. A community service fair will bring representatives from service organizations to the New Haven Green at 3 p.m., followed by a 4 p.m. interfaith service on the Green that will feature remarks from Mayor John DeStefano Jr.

The day’s events will conclude with a candlelight vigil on Cross Campus, at which University President Richard Levin will speak and the a capella group Shades will perform. Students and community members gathered on Cross Campus for a candelight vigil the day of the attacks 10 years ago.
