A bomb scare near the WTNH Channel 8 headquarters forced police to close a block on Elm Street Thursday evening.

Police received a report of a suspicious backpack near at trashcan at the corner of Elm and State Streets, just outside the television channel offices. As the Yale Police Department- New Haven Police Department joint bomb squad investigated the package, officers closed Elm between State and Orange streets to all traffic for about an hour, according to the New Haven Independent.

After taking X-rays of the bag’s contents, the bomb squad eventually opened the pack and discovered it was packed with clothing and “personal items,” according to the Independent.
