It seems Eric Wenzel ’04 has expanded his eponymous sandwich’s popularity into Manhattan. The delicious chicken cutlet sandwich that has been the staple of late night New Haven dining since Wenzel invented it at Alpha Delta Pizza in his junior year is now being offered at Epstein’s bar and restaurant at the intersection of Stanton and Orchard streets in New York City.

A waitress at the Lower East Side establishment said the sandwich has been offered for the last four and a half months as the “Wenzel Special Sandwich.”

“The guy it’s named after, Wenzel, he’s friends with the owner,” she said, adding she was unaware of the sandwich’s New Haven popularity.

No word yet on whether New Yorkers can call their own “Wenzel guy” for late night deliveries.
