A Yale graduate and Yale Daily News alumnus was the first to break the news that Osama bin Laden had been killed.

Keith Urbahn ’06 is widely recognized to be the first person to let Osama bin Laden’s death leak Sunday. Urbahn is currently the Chief of Staff for Donald Rumsfield, who served in the Bush administration as Secretary of Defense from 2001-2006.

@keithurbahn tweeted the following at 10:25pm on Sunday evening:

“So I’m told by a reputable person they have killed Osama Bin Laden. Hot damn.”

That person was a “reputable TV news producer,” according to a later tweet. In an interview with the Daily Caller, he stressed that his source was not a person with security clearance.

Urbahn also told the Daily Caller that his Twitter following has increased from hundreds to thousands of people, and jokingly hinted that he may break other news by Twitter in the future.

His last tweet before the announcement? A reaction the Washington Capitols hockey playoff game.
